Preparing for an Earthquake
April 14, 2017
Earthquake, just like other destructive calamities, should be taken seriously.
Even with the modern technology, no one can tell the movements of our plates or when the earthquake will strike. That is why it’s always best to be prepared at all times.
Once the earthquake strikes, the two things you should focus on is preventing injuries and minimizing the damage on your properties. To do this, it is important that you know what to do during that disastrous time rather than just panicking, here’s how:
Know what to do during the earthquake
First and foremost, stay calm and do not panic. Focus on what is happening and be cautious of your surroundings. Find the most sturdy table or the safest place (an open area) and remember to “duck, cover and hold”.
Have an evacuation plan
During the earthquake, there is no time to look for a safe place to go to. Plan your evacuation and the safest route to get there. Also, if you’re inside a vehicle or driving, slow down and stop at the side of the road. If possible, do not stop on or under a bridge. If you’re in a high-rise building, take the stairs. Do not take the lift.
Always have a first aid kit with you
Some injuries will not be avoided, so you must have a first aid kit ready at all times. The said kit should include medicines, alcohol, cotton, antiseptic, plasters, scissors, tweezers, safety pins, instant ice packs, flashlight, thermometer, and battery devices. If possible, have a stock of drinking water and food items.
Take note of the emergency hotlines such as 911 (NDRRMC) and 143 (Red Cross).Get protection for your assets
Once the earthquake strikes, the last thing you want to think about is your expensive jewelry or any other personal belongings and properties. Always think about you and your loved ones' safety before anything else. It’s true that it is hard to leave your valuables behind such as your house or your car. This is why you should protect it as early as now. Get
insurance for your house and
for your car so you don’t have to worry about losing them. This will provide you cash assistance should something happen to it.
Get protection for you and your loved ones
Your preparation for disasters such as earthquakes will not be fail-proof without protection for you and your family. Get a
health or
life insurance plan that will give you cash assistance once you or a loved one is hospitalized or deceased. It is hard to cope once you lost everything, but it will be harder if you also lost a loved one, so you should be prepared for when the unexpected comes.
We hope that this blog could help save a life. Stay safe!
