March 16, 2018

Graduation is one of the most memorable events in one’s life. It’s an indication that you finished an important chapter in your life and ready to move up to the next level, a milestone that calls for a celebration.

This article is dedicated to all parents whose kids are graduating from preschool this March. As parents, we are thrilled when our children go up the stage to perform.  When they sing or dance even if they don’t know the lyrics or not synchronized with the steps, we feel that they are the best performers on stage. We capture every moment. When they receive a recognition we almost tell the whole world how smart our children are by posting photos and videos on all our social media accounts.  That feeling of excitement is the best feeling ever!

Every achievement your kids make is also an achievement for you as parents most especially when they finish college. It pays off each and every sacrifices, the hard work, and sleepless nights. But before we fast forward to the future, allow us to give you some tips on what preparations to make for your future college goer. Of course we don’t only mean money, cultivating discipline and improving your child’s academic performance play a significant role towards a brighter future.  It may be a long journey but there’s no better time to start preparing, planning and saving than NOW!

Every student needs knowledge, confidence, academic, technical and social skills.  Here are some important things that parents should know and do to help their children become successful in the future:

  1. Study Habit - Set a specific study time with your child for the week. Do this at the same time and place each day until it becomes a part of your child’s routine. Consistency is the key. Study in a quiet place where the kid won’t be distracted.

  1. Maintain Good Grades - Doing an advance study will help your child understand the lessons well. Know the schedule of exams, so you have enough time to prepare for a reviewer or mock tests. Having good grades also reflects on how the parents support their children’s studies.

  1. Be Punctual - Teach your children the value of time.  Tell them that being punctual show their respect for others.  This also defines their character as a person. And you, as parents also have to show a good example to them. Practice what you preach especially to those kids with very absorbent minds, otherwise, your efforts of teaching them will be futile.

  1. Participate in Extracurricular Activities - If your child is good in academics, make him/her participate, as well, in extracurricular activities. Our children need to socialize to develop teamwork.

Sports activities will train the students to have more patience and be resilient in times of difficult scenarios. They will also develop critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills.

  1. Build relationships - Explain to your children the importance of having a strong and good relationship with other people in school like their classmates and teachers.

Most good relationships are developed based on shared interests, so allow your kids to try different activities to discover what their interests are and also for them to meet new people who might become their new friends.

These apply to all students from elementary to college. Showing our support to our children’s learning would give them more confidence and greater chance of developing a positive attitude.
